Past Positions
1964-1966 Agri. Extension Officer: State Department of Agriculture, Uttar Pradesh, India: Responsibilities included the preparation of seasonal crop production program for growers, conducting field demonstrations, organizing meetings to educate the farmers for improved crop production practices. Also, supervised 15 village level extension workers.
1966-1968 Graduate Assistant: Department of Agronomy, U.P. Agri. University, Pantnagar, India. I assisted in weed control research, taught courses in crop production, crop management and weed control to undergraduate students.
1968-1972 Lecturer: Department of Agronomy, U.P Agri. University, Pantnagar, India: I participated in all three phases (teaching, research and extension) of agricultural education. I taught two courses in weed control and several courses related to production and management of various agronomic crops. In research, my interest was on chemical and cultural methods of weed control, crop-weed competition and weed biology. I published several papers of practical value during this period. Also supervised research technicians and field workers. In extension, I participated as a weed scientist to solve growers’ problems, conducted farmers’ tours to research plots and prepared extension literature on weed control.
1972-1977 Graduate Research Assistant, Weed Science: Agricultural Research and Education Center, University of Florida, Belle Glade. I was responsible for conducting weed control and growth regulator-related research in sugarcane. The experiments were in the laboratory, greenhouse, and growth chambers as well as in the field. The research work included planning and execution of experiments, application of treatment, collection and analysis of data and writing the reports. Also, I supervised technicians and laborers.
1977-1978 Postdoctoral Fellow: Department of Dental Biomaterials, School of Dentistry, University of Florida, Gainesville. I worked as a chemist at this position and my responsibilities were to synthesize, purify and characterize polyurethane base polymers and other organic compounds.
1978-1980 Research Associate: Department of Horticulture, Coastal Plain Experiment station, University of Georgia, Tifton. My primary responsibility was to evaluate herbicides for weed control and phytotoxicity to container grown woody ornamentals. In this project, I worked on 22 different ornamental species. Additionally, I also worked on herbicide tolerance to different cultivars in vegetable crops. I also developed a data processing system to print tables for final research reports by the computer.

Research Project
Dr. Singh is responsible for total weed management research program for citrus. The main objective of my program is to develop the most efficient, economic, sustainable and environmentally sound weed management system for Florida citrus. In order to achieve these objectives, currently I am working in the following areas of weed science:
Using both, field and laboratory approaches, research is being conducted on:
- (1) determining the efficacy of available herbicides including chemical screening and phytotoxicity,
- (2) increasing the effectiveness of herbicides, including volume, time of application, additives, and equipments,
- (3) weed biology, including seed germination ecology,
- (4) integration of weed control methods for citrus nurseries and groves with production practices,
- (5) allelopathy and other biological control methods,
- (6) herbicide physiology, herbicide resistance, and
- (7) herbicide-soil interaction studies on leaching behavior of herbicides to reduce the risk of groundwater contamination.
